Lifting and positioning applications are not always straightforward – literally. Sometimes you may need to lift a product or material that is below you. Other times, you may need to move a heavy load from one area to another over obstructions or through small openings. The complexity of these applications can pose a challenge for standard lever tools or hand chain hoists. That’s where the power of 360-degree lifting comes into play.
Columbus McKinnon offers a selection of manual hoists and lever tools designed for 360-degree lifting that provide many benefits you may not be aware of. Designed for intelligent motion, these products help customers work smarter, stay safer, and be more productive.
Let’s discuss some of the benefits of 360-degree lifting.
Have you ever needed to lift a load that is below you or that you need to drift from one area to another? The CM® Hurricane™ 360° and Hurricane Mini 360° are specially designed for these applications. Unlike other hand chain hoists on the market, these feature a unique hand chain cover that allows the chain to rotate a full 360 degrees, allowing the operator to lift from virtually any position – even above the load. The cover design also promotes smooth chain movement in any multi-angle application.
When it comes to drifting applications where the hand chain angle needs to be adjusted throughout the lift, operators can easily use two Hurricane hoists in tandem to drift loads from one location to another.
Where the rigid handle of a traditional lever hoist would be difficult to maneuver or operate, our Hurricane hoists allow you to easily work around obstructions.
If a lever hoist is required, our ultra-compact, 360-degree rotating CM 602 and 603 ratchet lever hoists can get the job done. Built to perform just like larger models, these mini lever hoists can fit in the tightest spaces, while still offering the increased efficiency of 360-degree operation.
Because the Hurricane 360° and Hurricane Mini 360° can be used from virtually any angle, these hoists can also help keep the operator out of harm’s way when lifting a load. The rotating chain guide on these hoists lets the operator conveniently maneuver a load without standing under or near it.
Lever hoists are not only useful lifting tools, but they are also ideal for pulling and securing loads. But, in many of these applications, safe and ergonomic use are not possible. We designed our CM Tornado™ ratchet lever hoist to help solve this problem. Featuring a unique 360-degree rotating lever and fold-out revolving handle, operators realize the full potential of 360-degree rotation, giving them the ability to work up to 12 times faster and with as much as 30% less pull force than with conventional ratchet lever tools.
The unique offset, or curved, lever design keeps the operator’s hand and body aligned with the load chain. This reduces the risk of the twist effect (when a hoist twists around the chain) and the need to stabilize the hoist with another hand. The revolving, fold-out handle allows the operator to maintain control of the lever ergonomically and easily through its full 360-degree range of motion. And, when an application requires a customary ratcheting hand grip, the Tornado 360˚ can be operated like a traditional lever tool when the lever handle is in the upright position.
The CM Hurricane 360° is unlike any other hand chain hoist on the market today. Featuring a one-of-a-kind hand chain cover, the CM Hurricane 360° provides flexibility and versatility for challenging applications. The Hurricane's patented hand chain cover rotates a full 360 degrees, allowing loads to be lifted, positioned or pulled from virtually any angle -- even in confined spaces. It also permits the operator to stand safely away from the load, helping to prevent accidents and injuries.
The CM Hurricane 360° is unlike any other hand chain hoist on the market today. Featuring a one-of-a-kind hand chain cover, it provides flexibility and versatility for challenging applications. The CM Hurricane 360° is available as an army-type, integrated trolley hoist, uniquely and smartly designed for a variety of applications. With all of the same great general features as the hook-mounted version, these compact units feature a low-headroom design for use in even the tightest spaces.
The CM Hurricane Mini 360° is the smallest hand chain hoist on the market with full 360-degree rotation, providing flexibility and versatility for narrow or challenging applications. Small and lightweight, the CM Hurricane Mini 360° is ideal for multi-angle applications, allowing the operator to lift from virtually any position. Now available with 10, 15 and 20 ft lifts.
Redefining lever-operated hoists, the CM Tornado 360° features the revolutionary Sidewinder™ lever handle that allows for efficient operation in both lifting and pulling applications. Ergonomically designed for increased safety, the patent-pending CM Tornado 360° lets the operator to work up to 12 times faster and with as much as 30% less pull force than with conventional ratchet lever tools.
CM Series 602 hoists are the most compact ratchet lever hoist available, along with the CM Series 603. They perform just like larger models, but can be easily transported and stored in a toolbox. Their lightweight design makes them easy to transport and, with easy one-handed operation, they are ideal for use in confined spaces. 602 hoists can lift up to 550 lbs.
