Load Detection Technology Provides Safe Lifting Solutions

Hoisting & Lifting Equipment | by STAHL CraneSystems | Apr 12, 2015

Spedition Kübler in Michelsfeld stores and transports anything that needs a lot of space and specialized logistics solutions. Its headquarters has plenty of room for storage, setup, finishing, and packaging. One of the buildings has been expanded with a new crane to lift loads up to 100 tons, which required custom-built crane controls complying with strict safety regulations. The crane and controls were designed by Innokran, while the hoist and crane components were supplied by STAHL CraneSystems.

32, 63, and 100 tons are the maximum permissible safe working loads depending on where the load is being lifted in the building. The building is divided into a total of seven load sectors and crane control must meet Performance Level D standards to be able to operate safely. Therefore, several redundant systems have been incorporated. Auxiliary control developed by Innokran and linked to the STAHL CraneSystems control is based on a failsafe SPC. The load is evaluated both by the STAHL CraneSystems SMC 22 Multicontroller and the SPC.

Two distance lasers establish the position of the girder, while a failsafe inductive sensor determines the sector of the crane runway operation. A load display on the crane control shows the permissible load at that point, and a load display on the hoist shows the actual load. An AS 7 twin hoist from STAHL CraneSystems operates the lifting equipment. The field-proven hoist combination of two AS 7 wire rope hoists is ideal for use in the logistics building due to its high load capacity option and compact dimensions.

The crane began operation in March, loading two large transformers.

The hoist is a compact AS 7 ZW from STAHL CraneSystems.
